CULTURE CLUSTERS

Artistic ventures like small galleries and studios have tended to cluster in areas of cities where rents are manageable, usually in old industrial buildings that have the space artists need to create their work. Over time, as cities densify, these artistic hubs become desirable as interesting places to live. Complementary amenities like cafes and restaurants soon appear. The downside is that rents begin to increase and 'renovictions' force artists out of the very places they helped enliven.
